FS#6681 — Business Bandwidth
Scheduled Maintenance Report for Network & Infrastructure
Completed
For the customer who need a lot of bandwidth, we set up
the offer \"Business Bandwidth\". It's an offer
allowing to have up to 2Gbps of guaranteed bandwidth
to Internet by server.

In order to avoid abuses and that a customer tries
to buy 2Gbps to one unique ISP , we're talking about
\"Internet\", that means all the ISP. For this reason
we defined reasonable limits that we can guarantee
to each ISP , that means Internet :

http://www.ovh.com/fr/serveurs_dedies/hebergement_massif.xml
When you suscribe to this option, OVH reservs 100Mbps on each transit line
and private peering and does not limit the bandwidth to the public peering links.

This limitation is per destination and the destinations
sum is 2Gbps maximum.

That was the contractual part.

For practical purposes, we were never obliged to put these limitations
for 2 reasons :
- we had globally no abuse from our customers
- The ISP which receive the trafic are globally ok to receive it.
Globally, everything is OK.

But since a few weeks, we have some peering link which saturate
during rush hours.
We are discussing with the ISPs in order to increase them
regularly.
It's generally Ok.

But until all these discussions reach agreement, the links
are still saturated during the rush hours. In order to avoid
the quality deterioration for all the customers,
we set up limitations of 100Mbps and by ISP for the customers
who buy the Business Bandwidth (but it's applied automatically
for all the customers).

We set them up for the 2 ISP on the links which really
saturate at the rush hours. We can have other peering link
with these ISP which do not saturate and in this case
we don't apply these rules . We only apply them
on the links which saturate.

When the situation allows it, we will remove these limitations.

For the customers with the Standard or Premium bandwidth :
no change, their limit is already much lower.

Technical limitation of the limitation :
We limit the bandwidth from one server to all the subscribers of an ISP to 100Mbps.
That means that the whole ISP subscribers will not make more than a 100Mbps from a server.
That means that the subscribers of 2 ISP will not make more than 2x100Mbps from a server
That does not mean that the whole subscribers of 2 ISP cannot make more than 200Mbps from a server and so 180Mbps from an ISP and 20Mbps from the other.
It's 100Mbps per ISP.
That means that the whole subscribers of 10 ISP will not make more than 10x100Mbps from a server.
That also means that if the server makes more than a 100Mbps to an ISP and that a new visitor comes on the server , he will have the rest of 100Mbps.
