We are migrating this Thursday 21/02 the fiber connection Amsterdam <> London 100G (chassis Infinera DTN-X ). The 4x10G between the ams-1-6k and ldn-1-6k will be cut so they can be replaced by protections directly at the optical.
This operation involves not only migrating the line on new chassis but also replacing all the amps on intermediate sites (there are 4 on this link).
The main issue on this link is a very long span in the North Sea between Leiston (UK) and Zandvoort (NL).
We start the preparatory work around 8am. We will begin the intervention on the link around 11am.
Update(s):
Date: 2013-02-21 23:29:11 UTC
The mitigation issue between Leiston et Wherestead has been fixed.
We are having the span between Wickford and London which is not optimal, but this does not hold us from setting the link between London <> Amsterdam in production.
Date: 2013-02-21 18:16:55 UTC Amplifiers are installed in Leiston, the submarine span is ok.
However we are having in issue UK side, the attenuation from Leiston to Wherestea is too high. We are investigating.
Date: 2013-02-21 18:13:54 UTC We're replacing the amplifiers in Leiston (UK).
We are going to raise the submarine span.
Date: 2013-02-21 18:13:09 UTC Teams are on their way for to the next step, a team will be in Leiston (UK) and the other one in Zandvoort (NL) to raise the submarine span.
Date: 2013-02-21 18:10:46 UTC 100G cards are in place we changed amplifiers in Wickford, Wherestead and Zandvoort. We are currently setting the reception and transmission powers on these sites.
The next step is to change the optical amplifiers of Leiston, and span optimization between Leiston and Zandvoort (submarine span).
Date: 2013-02-21 18:07:02 UTC We are going to start the intervention. We are going to cut 4x10G between Amsterdam and London to install 100G cards.
